Facebook Marketplace fee calculator

Shipping through Facebook checkout costs 10% of the entire transaction with an $0.80 floor. Meeting someone locally costs nothing at all — which is most of the decision.

Fees verified 03 August 2026 against Facebook Marketplace’s official fee page.

Shipped versus local, and what the fee is charged on

Meta's merchant policy is specific: individual sellers pay 10% per transaction with a minimum of $0.80, and the fee is calculated on the entire amount of the transaction — item price, shipping fees and applicable taxes included. Charging the buyer for postage therefore increases the fee, so pricing shipping into the item rather than adding it separately makes no difference to what Meta takes.

Local pickup, arranged directly between buyer and seller with no checkout, carries no selling fee. That's the genuine advantage of Facebook Marketplace over every other platform on this site — for bulky or low-value items where shipping was never realistic, it's free. The trade is that you're arranging a meeting with a stranger and handling payment yourself.

One risk worth pricing in: a buyer dispute carries a $20 chargeback fee deducted from you, and you get 10 calendar days to respond. On a low-value shipped item, a single chargeback can wipe out several sales' profit.

A note on the numbers

Many guides quote 5% or a flat $0.40 for shipped orders. Those figures could not be found on any live Meta page — the current merchant policy states 10% with an $0.80 minimum, and that's what this uses.

Questions

Is local pickup really free?

There's no Meta selling fee on local transactions, because the fee applies to onsite checkout and local sales are arranged directly between buyer and seller. You also handle payment and taxes yourself.

Does the fee apply to shipping and tax?

Yes. Meta's policy states the fee is calculated on the entire transaction amount including shipping fees and applicable taxes, so there's no way to structure a listing to avoid it.

Why do other sites say 5%?

That figure circulates widely but couldn't be verified on any live Meta page. Meta's own merchant policy currently publishes 10% with an $0.80 minimum, so that's what this calculator uses.

What happens if a buyer disputes?

A $20 chargeback fee is deducted and you have 10 calendar days to respond. Seller Protection is US-only and covers items priced at $500 or less.
