How Mercari's current structure works
Since January 6, 2025 there is exactly one seller-side fee: a 10% selling fee, charged on your item price plus buyer-paid shipping. The old separate payment-processing fee (2.9% + $0.50) is gone from the seller side — it only ever applies to listings created before 2025 and it was charged to the buyer. If a guide mentions seller processing fees, it's describing the old system.
The shipping detail is the part that catches people: if the buyer pays $8 shipping through Mercari, your 10% fee is calculated on the item price plus that $8 — even though the $8 goes to the carrier, not to you. If you ship on your own dime instead, the fee base is just the item price, but the postage comes out of your pocket — the calculator's cost field is the honest place for it.
Buyers separately pay a 3.6% Buyer Protection fee on top of your price. It doesn't come out of your payout, but it does raise the total your buyer compares against other platforms, which matters when you cross-list.

Does Mercari charge the fee on shipping?
Yes — the 10% selling fee applies to the item price plus buyer-paid shipping for listings created or updated since January 6, 2025. Shipping you pay for yourself is not in the fee base.
Why do older videos and posts show different fees?
Because Mercari genuinely changed its structure multiple times — fees were removed in March 2024, restructured again in January 2025. Anything undated is unreliable in this niche; check the verification date below the calculator.
Does it cost anything to get paid out?
Standard direct deposit is free. Instant Pay costs a flat $3 per transfer, and a failed direct deposit costs $2. Those are withdrawal choices rather than sale fees, so they're not in the breakdown above.
