Steam Market fee calculator

Every Steam Market listing shows a buyer price and a seller payout, and the gap between them is bigger than most people assume. Enter either number to get the other.

Two fees, not one

Steam charges a 5% transaction fee on every Community Market sale. On top of that, the game's publisher charges its own fee — currently 10% for Counter-Strike 2, Team Fortress 2, Dota 2 and Artifact. Together that's 15% added to your payout to reach the buyer's price, which means the fees are roughly 13% of what the buyer pays, not 15%.

That distinction trips people up constantly. Listing an item so a buyer pays $10 does not leave you $8.50 — it leaves you about $8.70, because the 15% is calculated on the seller's side and added upward. The last row above works backwards from a payout you want, which is the direction that actually matters when you're pricing to hit a wallet total.

Two things worth knowing before you plan around this: Market funds are Steam wallet credit and cannot be withdrawn to a bank, and single listings are capped near $1,800 with a $2,000 wallet limit. This is a closed economy — useful for buying more games, not for making money.

Why Rust isn't an option here

Steam's own fee FAQ lists publisher fees for TF2, Dota 2, CS2 and Artifact, and Rust simply isn't on it. Community sources quote figures that contradict each other, so rather than guess at a number that would silently mislead every Rust trader who used this page, the calculator sticks to the games Valve actually documents.

Questions

Why don't I get 85% of the sale price?

Because the 15% is calculated from the seller's side and added on top to reach the buyer's price. Dividing by 1.15 rather than multiplying by 0.85 is the correct maths, which leaves you closer to 87% of what the buyer paid.

Can I withdraw Steam Market money to my bank?

No. Market proceeds land in your Steam wallet and can only be spent on Steam. Anyone offering to convert wallet funds to real money is running a scam or breaking Valve's terms.

Is the fee different for other games?

The 5% Steam fee is universal, but the publisher fee is set per game. Steam's FAQ documents 10% for CS2, TF2, Dota 2 and Artifact; other games aren't listed, so this calculator uses the documented 10%.
